Matt Power

Matt Power teaches drums, guitar, bass, ukulele, song writing and Music Production at Play It Forward

Matt is a musician from Sonoma County who has a passion for performing, learning and teaching music.  He started music at an early age on the violin. After four years of study on the violin, he got a drum set on his 13th birthday, and has never looked back.

Matt has a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Performance from CSU Sacramento.  Matt has honed his skills on the drums with mentors such as jazz legend Benny Barth, and  Rick Lotter.   He has been privileged enough to have shared the stage with musicians such as Geoffrey Keezer, Tim Reis, Dave Pietro, Julian Lage, Mike McMullen, Randy Vincent, Chris Amberger, Cameron Peterson and others.

Currently Matt enjoys teaching private music lessons and freelancing around the Sonoma County area. His favorite aspect of teaching is watching his students appreciation for music grow, and watching them grow as individuals on their instrument.  Matt has 15 years teaching experience.  Past students of Matt include Jesse Simpson, an active freelancing jazz musician in New York City, and Vittorio and Vincenzo of Santa Rosa’s V Squared.

Matt also helped form Indie Rock band, “Lungs and Limbs.”  Lungs and Limbs have performed around Northern California, the Los Angeles Area, and the Pacific Northwest.  They have recently performed at The Great American Music Hall, and Slims.  They have also performed at Cal Stated East Bay’s “Charged Indie Festival” where they shared the stage with Parade of Lights, Con Bro Chill, Vic Mensa, and DLRN.  Their two self recorded and produced EP’s have received international recognition.
